Malta Gaming Authority and MCCAA sign consumer protection MoU

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation on matters relating to consumer affairs and player protection within the gaming sector.
Coordinated approach to consumer concerns
Through the MoU, the MGA and MCCAA will take a more coordinated approach to addressing consumer concerns, complaints and dispute-related matters that intersect their respective remits, the authorities said.
The agreement establishes a formal framework for collaboration, communication and the exchange of relevant information, in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Closing regulatory gaps
MGA Chief Executive Officer Charles Mizzi said that effective player protection requires authorities working together, sharing expertise and ensuring that consumers do not fall through the gaps between their respective remits.
“Effective player protection requires more than strong regulatory frameworks. It also depends on authorities working together, sharing expertise and ensuring that consumers do not fall through the gaps between their respective remits,” Mizzi said.
MCCAA Executive Chairperson Carmen Ciantar remarked that the agreement formalises an already constructive relationship between the MCCAA and the MGA and provides a clear framework for cooperation.
“This agreement formalises an already constructive relationship between the MCCAA and the MGA and provides a clear framework for cooperation that will help ensure that consumer concerns arising within the gaming sector are addressed efficiently and effectively,” Ciantar said.
