Spain introduces cross-operator deposit cap of €700 per day
Spain's DGOJ has launched a single deposit limit that tracks each player across all licensed online operators, binding from March 2027.
Cross-operator deposit limits launched
Spain’s Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) has introduced a single deposit cap that follows each player across every licensed online operator, set by default at €700 a day, €1,750 a week and €3,300 over four weeks. Spain’s consumer affairs ministry launched the cap last Wednesday and switched on a Player Portal at the same time, according to the regulator’s release dated 21 October.
The system is being tested now and becomes binding on 26 March 2027.
How the system works
Under the new model, once the combined total across all licensed sites reaches the cap, no operator may take a further deposit, the regulator said. The DGOJ will run the system itself, using a tool it developed to verify compliance with the joint limits in real time.
Any change to, or removal of, a limit takes effect only after three working days. A player can raise the limit no more than once every three months.
The ministry puts multi-operator players at roughly a third of everyone active in Spanish online gambling.
Player Portal access
The portal is accessed through Spain’s Cl@ve digital identity system and is open to all citizens, whether or not they hold a gambling account. The Player Portal shows deposits, stakes, winnings and losses, with historical data and aggregated statistics.
Further consultation
A second public consultation on a mandatory monthly test, which would require every state-licensed operator to screen accounts in the first seven days of each month against the previous 183 days of activity, closed on 22 October.
Operators in the first consultation round in 2025 disputed the DGOJ’s implementation estimate of €130,000 per operator, iGaming Business reported.
